Wood given another life

Natural grain, shape and character

Delivery across Ontario

Toronto, the GTA, Muskoka and beyond

Since 2004, Urban Tree Salvage has been building custom live edge furniture in Ontario: dining tables, kitchen tables, boardroom tables, coffee tables, home desks, benches, console tables, and log round side tables. Over the years, we built a large collection of wood from salvaged Toronto trees and reclaimed wood from old Toronto and Ontario buildings. We milled and kiln-dried it ourselves, and now we draw from that collection to build each piece. Some slabs are real gems — grain, size, and character we may never see again. Every piece is one of one. When it is gone, it is gone. We sell ready-made pieces from the showroom and build to order when you need an exact size, wood, finish, or base. Either way, it is solid wood, made here, and built to last.

What we build

If it is made from a slab, we probably build it. Ready-made or made to order:

Live Edge Dining Table

Live edge dining tables and kitchen tables

Single slabs, joined slabs and custom metal bases

Live edge coffee tables

Natural edge slabs in organic shapes

Log round side tables and tree stump tables

Add a natural element to your home

Do not see your size? We build to order. Pick your slab, size, finish, and base, and we will build it.

Our Story

Toronto trees, second life.

We started in 2004 with a simple idea: a good hardwood tree that had to come down in the city should not end up as mulch or firewood. So we bought a sawmill and a kiln and turned those trees into a deep collection of exceptional wood. Today, we build from that supply — including slabs and log rounds we have held onto because they were too special to rush. Every piece we use was milled and kiln-dried by us, and every table, bench, and log round is still built and finished in our own shop. No outsourcing. When you buy one, you are giving that wood another lifetime.

Our collection.

Years of salvaging gives us a large supply of distinctive Toronto and Ontario wood.

01

Choose the wood.

We pull from that collection to find the right species, grain, size, and character for each piece.

02

Kiln-dried by us.

Every slab we build with was dried in our own kiln so it stays stable indoors.

03

Build.

We build and finish every piece in-house — woodwork and metal bases — ready-made or made to order.

04

Custom furniture

Built to your size.

Can not find the right size on the floor? We will build it. Choose your slab, your exact size, live edge or straight edge, natural or stained finish, and a wood or metal base. We will walk you through it and build the piece to fit your room. Bring us the measurements. We will tell you straight what will work and what it will take.

Live Edge Furniture: Ash Live Edge Dining Table

Woods we work with

Our collection is mostly Ontario hardwoods we salvaged over the years: ash, maple (including spalted maple), elm, black walnut, oak, basswood, poplar, and willow. Some are rare, one-of-a-kind finds. If you have a species or look in mind, ask — we will tell you what is on hand.

Made in Ontario. Sold across the province.

Our shop and showroom are in the Parry Sound area, and we build for homes, cottages, and businesses in Toronto, the GTA, Muskoka, Parry Sound, and across Ontario. Much of our collection came from Toronto trees and was milled and kiln-dried by us. Get in touch to ask what is on hand, book a visit, or talk through a custom build.

Questions people ask

Do you make custom sizes?

Yes. Most of our work is made to order. Pick your slab, size, finish, and base and we will build it to fit.

Can I pick my own slab?

Can I pick my own slab?

Where does your wood come from?

Mostly Toronto trees that had to come down, plus reclaimed wood from old Ontario buildings. We milled and kiln-dried the wood ourselves and now build from that collection.

What is a log round?

A cross-cut slice of a tree trunk, finished as a side table, coffee table, stool, or plant stand. Small footprint, solid wood, works well in condos and tight corners.

Live edge furniture or straight edge — which should I choose?

Live edge keeps the natural outside of the tree and gives you a one-of-a-kind outline. Straight edge is cleaner and fits a modern room. Both are solid wood and finished the same way.

How do I start?

Send us your measurements and what you are after. We will tell you what is in stock and what a build would look like.

We originally purchased our table in 2014. After years of use, the table was in need of refreshing. Melissa was fantastic in helping me through the refinishing process. She was easy to deal with and accommodated my schedule in getting the table back to the shop. The table was returned ahead of schedule and looked better than before.

In our quest for a dining room table, a friend recommended we check out Urban Tree Salvage. We are so glad we did. Right from the start, Melissa proved very knowledgeable and thorough. She guided us through the selection process and the available finishing options giving us her recommendations based on what our needs were. During the finishing process, Melissa provided us with updates without ever being asked to do so, a rarity in customer service we see these days. And a post completion follow up as well. In the end? A stunning dining room table better than we imagined. And the delivery team was exceptional. Polite, courteous and professional. Thank you Melissa for all your efforts. I would not hesitate in recommending Urban Tree Salvage to anyone.

It’s been great to work with Melissa and Urban Tree Salvage over the years. Amazing quality, beautiful designs and a great value for custom furniture pieces. I first bought a side table over ten years ago, and a custom desk more recently. In both occasions Melissa provided great guidance to achieve what I was looking for. It was lovely to choose from a wide selection of high quality wood slabs, especially those with unfinished natural edges.
